about
This is an alternate version of Fighting with Angels. I always thought it would sound great with a jazz combo-kind of arrangement, so we gave it a try. The idea behind the song is that we miss out on so many good things in life if we stop being open to new experiences. I hope you enjoy it.
lyrics
Fighting with Angels
Verse One:
There came a time
Your name was the first word on my lips as I arose,
Groggy and half-asleep, morning light not yet arrived.
Verse two:
There came a time
When all my time with you was like a whispered prayer,
Unformed but no less fervent.
On hearing it, it sounded like a sigh.
Pre-chorus:
If I’d known I’d feel such joy, would I have bended sooner?
Could I stop fighting and just let go, just let go?
Chorus:
I’ve been fighting with angels.
How could I help but lose?
Their gifts lie scattered all around,
I’m hurting and confused.
I’ve been fighting with angels, fighting with angels.
Verse three:
You came and stayed,
Sweeping out the shadows when you took my hand,
Holding it gently.
I know I wouldn’t be afraid again.
Pre-chorus:
If I’d known I’d feel such joy,
Would I have bended sooner?
Could I stop fighting and let go, just let go?
Chorus:
I’ve been fighting with angels.
How could I help but lose?
Their gifts lie scattered all around.
I’m hurting and confused.
I’ve been fighting with angels, fighting with angels.
(repeat chorus)
